Before my oldest child was born, I read the book, Praying the Scriptures for Your Children by Jodie Berndt and decided to put what I learned into practice.
Instead of just praying the scriptures over my children, I actually wrote them on a notecard and taped them around the house to remind me to pray for my new baby, which is actually something I believe she suggests in her book (although it has been awhile since I read the book and I don’t remember if she said it or not.)
As I dressed my son for the day I would pray the armor of God over him, with the help of a notecard I had taped above the changing table.
Before we left the house I would pray protection over him, with the help of a notecard I had taped beside the door.
I Absolutely love the idea of cutting, taping and praying the scriptures over my children, and with after reading the 4 reasons below, I believe you will too.
1st reason to cut, tape, & pray the scriptures over your children: Scripture is God-breathed
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
I can surely pray whatever comes to my mind over my children, and I do all the time, but there is something so powerful about praying the scriptures over my children. The words come straight out of the bible and hold power as I speak them.
2nd reason to cut, tape, & pray the scriptures over your children: It’s easy to do
Cutting, taping, and praying scripture is an effortless way to pray over any circumstance in your life—you don’t need to search for the words, as you are simply reading and speaking the word of God back to him.
3rd reason to cut, tape, & pray the scriptures over your children: You can use it when you don’t know what to pray
Do you ever struggle with knowing what to pray? Not just for your children but for anyone, and in general? Because you are reciting the very words of the Lord back to the Lord, you can be assured that you are praying the will of God.
4th reason to cut, tape, & pray the scriptures over your children: It reminds you to pray
Taping scripture around your home is a great way to remind you to pray. Want to pray for protection? Tape scripture near your door so it reminds you to pray on the way out of the house. Want to pray the fruits of the spirit over your child? Tape scripture near your kitchen table.
Scripture doesn’t need to correlate with where you tape it, but for the fun of it, its something I do.
Praying can feel like a daunting task, but it isn’t and it doesn’t need to be. In fact it can be fun!!
For an easy way to remind yourself to pray, I suggest cutting, taping and praying.
